The
Danube, Europe's second-largest river originates in the Black
Forest of Germany. Along its way across eight countries, it goes
under six different names, the Hungarians call it Duna.
The scene of the dramatic deviation, known straightforwardly as
Dunakanyar or Danube Bend, shows the river at its most alluring,
the lush countryside of delight, the towns aglow with charm.
The area is Hungary's prime year-round vacationland, a favourite
with hikers and hunters, history buffs and art lovers.
