The wooded hills along the frontier with Austria have been
called the Hungarian Alps. As they never attain an altitude
of even 3000 feet, this might seem some sort of Hungarian joke.
But in fact they are foothills of the authentic Alps of Austria,
and much appreciated as recreational assets.
But whether or not you take these hills seriously, the towns
of the western border region live up to all requirements in
the realms of history, art and unforgettable charm.
